1970's Fashion Trends
Well, one thing that has remained a common factor in the fashion world over the years has been the ever-popular jeans. The popularity of
denim jeans is something one is very well aware of. Jeans with frayed edges were pretty much in demand. The legs were generally flared towards the bottom which was known as bell-bottoms. The hipsters that are a staple diet amongst youngsters today, were popular in the 1970s. Apart from this, embroidered jeans or those with metal embellishments were considered to be really haute. There were many others who opted for high-waisted jeans.
The 1970s was also a time when disco gained popularity. As the nightclubs emerged on the scene
corset tops, so did the need for people who loved to dance (or simply be a part of the dance floor) wear glitzy and glamorous stuff to dazzle clubbers. Thus, came the introduction of Lycra and clothing created with this material was soon picked up from the shelves. Lycra blend clothing gear was preferred as one could try different looks with shining materials that stood out under the disco lights. ######y and stylish hot pants, jumpsuits, halter necks and clingy fabrics were some of the most famous fashion trends of the 1970s. Granny dresses which were long dresses with high necks were also in demand during this period.
The
hippy look that began in the 1960s continued to create a flutter even in the 1970s. Loud colors and accessories that sported the peace symbol were worn by men as well as women.
When we talk about 1970s fashion trends, how can we forget beautiful and gorgeous skirts? Skirts generally reached the ankles and were worn with platform heels. During the middle of the 70's however, the length was reduced, thus making way for micro minis. While elders frowned over these short skirts, men had no reason to complain! The peasant look also found many followers during the 1970s. Women loved wearing loose peasant tops with skirts that flared out or were made of tiers.
Men loved wearing jerseys with slogans. The sporty look was visible with men opting for
T-shirts in zany colors. While some preferred to dress up as sport stars, a few opted to follow the
punk look. This made way for torn
leather jackets worn with frayed denim jeans. Punk fashion thus managed to influence the minds of many young men as such groups also had their own beliefs and rules.
These were some of the fashion trends seen in the 1970s. Even today, such fashionable clothing gear still continues to find a place in many wardrobes. Although
corset tops, trends keep changing, some things are definitely here to stay.
