It's almost like stealing.
Except it's honest ivory dresses, affordable and completely legal.
The local prom dress assistance organization Red dresses, Prom Blitz, is selling dresses worth $1 One shoulder dresses,000 for only $35.
"Some of the designer gowns are sold for over $1 Long Prom Dresses,000 in stores such as Holts, and Neiman Marcus in the States," said Robin Hadfield.
"The Prom Blitz Fabric and Dress Sale is going to price these dresses for less than $35.00. We've also selected some prom gowns which are perfect for Grade 8 graduations Short prom dresses," she said.
The March Break sale will be held Friday � to Sunday during the March Break at the Kozlov Centre.
Prom Blitz started six years ago when Kelly Hadfield and her mother, Robin, talked about some of Kelly's classmates who were losing their self-esteem and confidence due to tough economic situations at home.
Together they decided to collect as many prom gowns as possible and then give them to the girls at Kelly's high school who needed help.
They sent e-mails to their friends asking for dresses. They sent letters to manufacturers and made phone calls to bridal salons and designers.
The Prom Blitz program gold dresses, originally known as the Ballroom Blitz White dresses, was born.
Today, six years after that initial discussion, with the help of hundreds of volunteers, they have donated over 650 dresses to Grade 12 girls from across Simcoe County.
Now, the Prom Blitz has a collection of designer dresses which are not high school prom style, but are elegant cocktail, bridesmaid or summer dresses.
"We hope this three-day sale helps raise funds to buy gowns in the sizes needed for this year's graduates. Really small sizes and really large sizes are very hard to get donated. We also have hundreds of dresses which are really out-dated styles, but are made from beautiful fabric. These out-dated gowns are perfect for anyone who can sew their own clothes, does quilting, makes children clothes, costumes, market bags, book covers or does scrap-booking or crafts.
"Rip them apart and recycle the lace Green dresses, beading and fabric. All the gowns sold for fabric are being sold for $2 each Pink dresses," said Hadfield.
Anyone with a donation of a prom gown can drop it off at any REMAX CHAY Realty office, the Kozlov Centre's administration offices, Cotty's Dry Cleaners, or the One Stop Beauty Shop in Midland.
