When David Cone finally made it to Suite 33 at Yankee Stadium on Saturday, two buttons of his blue shirt were opened, and he looked relieved. On the 10-year anniversary of Cone’s perfect game with the Yankees,
Cheap DC Comics & Marvel Hats, he was thrilled that he did not bounce the ceremonial first pitch.
“I was nervous,
Red Bull Hats,” Cone said. “That’s nerve-racking out there.”
Cone was known for his creativity and for throwing different pitches from different arm angles. So, naturally,
NBA Hats, Cone decided to be creative with his latest assignment. Instead of throwing an overhand pitch, Cone tossed a sidearm slider,

“I tried to break one off,” Cone said. “The guys were getting on me to do it. I almost did it.”
As the Yankees and the Tigers grazed into the fifth inning of a scoreless game,

While C.C. Sabathia was throwing lots of pitches to struggle past Detroit,

Levy, who was one of the original “Cone-heads” for Cone’s starts for the Mets at Shea Stadium, held up a glass of Champagne and offered a toast to Cone. With Cone’s relatives and friends shouting “speech, speech,” Cone gave a quick thank-you speech.
Cone spoke at length with Chris Pendergast, a former school teacher with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease), whom he met in 1996. Before Pendergast left the suite, he had a pen placed in his mouth and signed his name in Cone’s guest book. Cone considered that a perfect ending to the day.

I also commend David Cone for his service to the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor by testifying about her role in keeping MLB playing after the strike. David seems to be very much at home in the world of the Congress….

I too count myself among Mr. Cone’s admirers. Long before he threw the perfect game, he had already endeared himself to Yankee fans. I’ll never forget, for example, his return from a blood clot in his throwing arm in 1996,
Houston Astros Hats, when he amazingly no-hit the A’s for was it seven innings? And his character was always evident whenever he spoke as a Yankee.
That was his 2nd act as a NY sports star. In his first act,
Colorado Rockies Hats sale, as a young brash flamethrower for the Mets, he learned a lot about the consequences of being a little too cocky. He has always seemed a little humbler since that time.
Now in his 3rd act as a sometime Yankee broadcaster and an ambassador for baseball, one wonders what his next step will be – a more important position in baseball, or perhaps politics?
