I'm always impressed on the amount of visitors personal branding stories generate for CIO.com. My last story around the subject, 6 Personal Branding Problems that can Threaten Your Work Lookup,Windows 7 License, turned almost 16,000 web page views in its 1st week.
The numbers tell me that CIO.com viewers are hungry for details on this subject matter. To know why, I spoke to two personalized branding strategists who may have experience functioning with IT experts. They explained why private branding is this kind of a hot topic right now as well because it professionals' commonest hang-ups throughout the practice.
Randi Bussin, a licensed career coach and Reach private branding strategist, attributes IT professionals' curiosity in personal branding for the opposition in present day job marketplace. They understand that landing a whole new career demands a good deal a lot more work than searching the world wide web and sending out resumes, she says of her consumers in IT.
At exactly the same time, she adds, they are viewing and hearing a good deal concerning the part personalized branding can perform within their task searches, however they never know how to place the principles of private branding into practice for by themselves.
"People are realizing you have to do this,Microsoft Office Professional 2007," says Bussin. "It's a non-negotiable. If you can't say what makes you unique from everyone else applying for the same career, you're going to  have a hard time rising above the noise."
Personal branding is equally important to IT specialists who want to increase their job security, if not advance their careers with their current employers, notes personalized branding strategist Catherine Kaputa, who is also a speaker and the author of You Are a Brand!
"In the business world, soft power trumps hard power," she says. "The farther up you go in a company, the much more important these soft power skills are."
These soft power skills, which include leadership ability, communication skills, presentation skills, and relationship-building skills—combine to create an individual's individual brand.
Despite the advantages personalized branding confers to IT professionals, the apply can be painful for them. Here are four common pain points IT specialists experience close to private branding:
1. Some do not want private branding to matter within their profession advancement.
"A whole lot of information technology people are struck by the fact that the school rules no longer apply in the business world," says Kaputa. In school, she says, the student grind pays off: Their intelligence and hard work leads to good grades and academic recognition. But in the business world, she adds, intellect and hard work aren't often enough to yield a promotion or job offer, and this bothers some IT professionals. Candidates often need to showcase exceptional soft skills and have good reputations too.
2. They do not like the idea that their appearance matters.
Like it or not, your personal brand is inextricably bound up with your appearance—the way you dress,Microsoft Office 2010 Home And Student, whether or not you wear glasses, your grooming. "There's a lot of evidence that packaging plays a strong position in how people view you," says Kaputa. If you want to be a VP,Microsoft Office 2010 Key, you need to dress the part, she says,
