Default Adidas Sutra For Duty or Love

A/N This story takes place in medieval times, a time when knights were admired and when chivalry still existed. Also this was the time when people were betrothed at a young age.
The sky was a deep blue color with only a single long gray cloud hanging near the sun. The sun was now high in the sky and reached out to the lands lying below with its rays and providing warmth for all. It was still early morning and people were beginning to stir on mother earth. A great excitement permeated the air above a city in the land of Aiera. The city of Panasa was alive with people preparing for a procession. Today was to be the day that the knights of the king were to march through as they were heading back to the capital city of Larys after the king's triumph over local barbarians that had been threatening the peace of the land.
In one of the larger and more prominent mansions in the city of Panasa a father and mother had been up since sunrise making preparations for the procession. Lord Malcom Myrn was one of the noblemen of the city; a powerful man in the form of business and commerce but his health was not so good. Due to his health problems he did not enter into the military or knights of the king when he was younger. Also being part of noble descent he was not under law required to join in the military. But he knew that his son, who now was only six, had a passion for the knights and today was going to be the first time that Lord Malcom could show young Reace what a knight would look like.
Currently Lord Malcom was climbing the stairs in their house and headed to where Reace's room was located. As he walked he smiled to himself as he recalled just how excited Reace had been when he had heard that the knights were going to be riding through Panasa. He had dearly wanted to see them and that was exactly what Lord Malcom was going to do for his young son. He remembered the first time Reace had asked him what a knight was.
(Flashback occurs)
"Dad! Dad! You're home!" young Reace called out as his father entered their huge mansion after a long and arduous days work.
"Hello there Reace. How was your day?" Lord Malcom asked picking his son up.
"Celest and I played outside and Joseph told me that his daddy is a knight! What's a knight?" Reace said in a very quick tone.
"What is a knight? Hmm, well, a knight is a person that protects people. A knight is a special person, who has a pure heart and fears no evil. He protects the weak, in other words protects people that are not strong enough to protect themselves." Lord Malcom said to Reace as he made his way to the chair that looked out on the lower city at a window in the mansion.
"He sounds great! But what does he look like?" Reace said in an excited tone.
"Ah well, that is probably one of the best parts of a knight Reace. They are clad in full plate armor bearing the crest of the knighthood. In the old days there were different factions of knights, but now they are all united under the kings banner. They normally carry a large shield, great sword and sometimes a lance. Although some knights also carry other weapons such as bows. They ride astride the greatest horses in the land. They are truly a sight to behold." Lord Malcom said imagining in his minds eye the image of the glorious knights.
"Can I see one dad?" Reace asked his father.
"Well, not right now Reace, the knights are at this moment protecting the land from the barbarians that are attacking the land. They are busy keeping us safe Reace. But I am sure when they return victorious against barbarians they will pass through our city. Then I will take you to see them." Lord Malcom said giving Reace a smile and ruffling his hair.
"Yay! Thanks dad!" Reace said and hugged father before running off.
(End of flashback)
Today was the day that Lord Malcom was going to keep his word to his son Reace, today was the day that Reace was going to see the knights for the first time. The door of Reace's room creaked open as his father quietly entered into the room. Lord Malcom made his way to Reace's bed and looked upon the silent form of his sleeping child. He smiled as he gazed upon his son.
"Reace. It's time." Lord Malcom said quietly.
The affects of those words were instantaneous as Reace opened his eyes in a flash and a smiled curled around his lips.
"Are they here?" Reace asked excitedly nearly falling out of his bed in his excitement.
Lord Malcom looked into his son's ice-blue eyes. Reace had his moms raven hair, but the ice-blue eyes Reace had inherited from his father. Reace's eyes were alive with excitement and Lord Malcom could see that Reace could barely contain his excitement.
"Not yet, but we need to get you cleaned up and ready to see them. Then we must eat and go and get a good spot to see them." Lord Malcom told Reace as Reace was already running towards the bathroom that was in the mansion.
Due to the fact that Lord Malcom was so wealthy his family were granted the luxury of having a bath everyday, unlike the poorer folk that could not afford warm water and would sometimes only bath once a month. Lord Malcom went back down the stair and saw his wife sitting in her favorite chair drinking from a goblet. The Lady Catherine Myrn was a strikingly beautiful woman. She had long raven hair that reached almost until her waist and had hazel brown eyes that were filled with life. She was a petite woman with charm and poise that many a suitor had tried, in vain, to win her hand in marriage. She had a charming smile that seemed to cast a spell on anybody she would flash the smile to.
"Is he ready?" she asked Lord Malcom.
"Aye, he is busy getting cleaned up right now." Lord Malcom answered drawing a chair up next to her.
"And he did not object to having his daily bath?" Lady Catherine asked in mild surprise.
"I believe that he wants to get everything out of the way so that he can see the knights. He probably believes the faster he does everything the faster the knights will get here for him to see." Lord Malcom chuckled to his wife.
Just then one of their servants entered the room and put a large bowl of fruit on the small round table that was situated in between Lord Malcom and Lady Catherine. In the bowl were large pears, apples and grapes. The servant then set another plate down next to bowl. In the plate was cut up pieces pineapple, belstaff hombre, pieces of kiwi fruit, slices of peach and strawberries cut in half. The two ate of the fruit in silence until the silence was interrupted by the sound of Reace's excited voice as he bound down the stairs.
"I'm all done! Are they here yet?" Reace asked as he reached his parents.
"Not quite Reace, but why don't you first eat some fruit." Lady Catherine said to Reace as he peered at the assorted fruit.
After selecting some fruit and stuffing his selection in his mouth all at once, Reace stood with his cheeks full of fruit staring at his parents in eager anticipation.
"I think it would be better if you swallowed that Reace." Lady Catherine told him.
After some minutes of struggling to chew his full cheeks of fruit Reace was finally ready for his outing. Lord Malcom bid farewell to his wife and he took Reace to go and see the knights that would be marching through the city. Lord Malcom took Reace to a large building that overlooked the main roadway of the city. Here many other noblemen were also gathered. To Reace's delight his best friend Celest and her father were also their. Celest's father, Lord Tashius, was also a noble and was actually Lord Malcom's business partner.
"Hey Celest! This is going to be so great,Adidas Sutra! I can't wait!" Reace said as Celest and her father approached.
"I don't know." Celest said dubiously as Lord Malcom and her father started to speak about business.
"What do you mean you don't know?" Reace asked shocked.
"Well, it's just a bunch of guys that are riding on horses. I mean, I'd rather be riding the horses, it would be more fun that way." Celest said smiling at Reace.
"That's true." Reace said nodding as he imagined himself riding a horse.
Just then trumpets sounded and all approached the many windows looking down onto the streets. Reace was one of the first to occupy a window along with Celest. He leant over as far as he possibly could without falling out of the window as his eyes roved the area below. Celest was also peering outside, although not with as much interest as Reace. Finally applause nearby around their corner of view announced that the knights were just about to come into view.
"Here they come!" Reace yelled in excitement as he saw the first knights come into view.
It was a spectacular sight indeed. The knights were riding their horses in two columns. The two lead knights were carrying poles to which banners bearing the kings crest (a golden lion from a frontal view with a snarl on its face and bearing its teeth) were on. The knights were in their full plate armor that glistened in the sun. On the breast of each knights armor was the golden crest of the king. Each knight wore a helmet with blue plumage in the helmet that swayed a little as a breeze picked up.
Fastened to their sides Reace could see beautifully crafted swords that also gleamed in the sun. Their shields (which also had the king's golden lion crest on it) were fastened. Some of the knights also had bows strapped to their backs. It was an impressive sight and Reace's mouth was hanging open without him even realizing it. The horses were marching in perfect unison as the knights passed by. Reace waved and one of the knights looked up, smiled and gave him a small wave as they moved along. If Reace did not have ears his smile would have gone right around his entire face.
"Quiet a sight. What did you think son?" Lord Malcom said after the procession had moved out of their view.
"Oh wow! It was incredible dad!" Reace said as his father had to physically remove him from the window as he threatened to fall out while still trying to see the backs of the knights.
"What did you think Celest?" her father, Lord Tashius, asked her as she climbed down from the windowsill herself.
"They were nice, but I think the horses were very pretty." Celest said smiling affectionately up at her father.
The exasperated look on Reace's face as he heard Celest's casual remark caused everybody to chuckle. In his opinion, the knights were not just nice, they were perfect, the very best thing that he had ever seen in his life. It was then that he felt a strange feeling in his chest, a feeling of desire.
Later that in the day Lord Malcom and Lord Tashius had to meet with one another in order to discuss further plans for their business. They had decided to meet at Lord Malcom's home and Lord Tashius had, much to Reace's delight, brought Celest with. While the two noblemen went on with their meeting Reace and Celest were in his room discussing the day's events.
"Oh man! They were incredible!" Reace said still smiling from ear to ear in excitement.
"They were nice, but I don't know if they were that great. I think their horses looked better than them." Celest said and stuck her tongue out at Reace.
"Nice? They were not nice! They were brilliant Celest! And honestly, who could look at horses and ignore the knights? Girls!" Reace said slapping himself on the forehead, a little harder than he had intended.
"Ow!" he said holding his head with both hands.
"Oh very clever Reace. That's what you get for insulting girls! she said to Reace as she fell into a fit of giggles.
"That's it! Now I'm gonna get you!" Reace said leaping to his feet and ran towards Celest.
"Eek!" Celest squeaked and quickly got to her feet as well and ran away from Reace.
They ran around the room for a few minutes before both tired out and fell on his bed breathing quickly. Both friends started laughing and then Reace sat up and placed his chin in his hands while leaning his arms on his legs.
"Knights are the best! They protect people and help them. I wish I could be a knight." He said and sighed.
Then his eyes slowly opened wide and a smile crept across his face as he sat up straight.
"What is it Reace?" Celest asked him with a frown on her face and she too sat up.
"That's it Celest!" Reace said and looked at her with shining eyes.
"What's it Reace? You're making even less sense than normal." Celest said smiling a little.
"That's exactly it! A knight! That's what I'm going to do! I am going to become a knight Celest,Moncler Men's Down Vests!" Reace said his voice quivering a little with excitement.
"A knight? Why on earth would you want to do that? I mean, your dad is a noble Reace. You don't have to become a knight. That's one of the advantages of living in a noble family." Celest said frowning a little at what Reace had just said.
"I am dead serious Celest! I don't care if I don't have to become a knight because I want to become a knight!" Reace said nodding in a very determined fashion.
"If you say so Reace." Celest said and shrugged.
Reace had told both his father and his mother about his decision. His mother was a little worried about her little boy and told Reace just how dangerous being a knight was. Lady Catherine had hoped to try and scare Reace out of such a dangerous path by telling him some of the horrors of battling and hardships a knight would face. Her strategy however backfired because upon hearing this Reace was more determined than ever to become a knight. Lord Malcom on the other hand could not have been a prouder father even if he had tried. When Reace had told him he immediately grabbed Reace from off of the ground and given him a hug. Later one evening Lord Malcom went to see Reace just before he (Reace) went to bed.
"Hey there Reace." Lord Malcom said poking his head around the corner of his son's door and looked into his room.
"Hey dad." Reace said smiling from under the covers of his bed.
"All ready for bed?" Lord Malcom asked Reace as he entered the room and went to sit on Reace's bed next to him.
"All ready dad." Reace answered back still smiling.
"There's something I wanted to discuss with you Reace." Lord Malcom said sounding serious.
"What's wrong dad?" Reace asked, any trace of a smile gone from his face.
"I've been thinking a lot of what you told me the other day. And well, when you told me that you wanted to become a knight I was the happiest and proudest father on earth. It is a very noble and just path that you have decided to take. I know you are very passionate about being a knight, and so I spoke to a few friends of mine. On the day you turn eight you will be accepted into the Royal Order of Knights and train as a squire under one of the knights already in the Order." Lord Malcom said and his face broke out into a smile as he watched the realization dawn on Reace's face.
"Me? In the Order? A squire? Thank you so much dad!" Reace said leaping out from under his bed covers and hugging his dad.
"I thought you would like that. But in the meantime, even though you're very young I have organized for you to start training. Not intense physical training, because you are still to young for that. The training I have organized for you is lessons in swordsmanship and lessons on horse riding. I believe that these skills will greatly help you when you start as a squire." Lord Malcom said.
"Wow! Thanks dad!" Reace said and hugged his father again.
"Alright, time for bed." Lord Malcom said as he tucked Reace into his bed again.
Lord Malcom slowly walked out of the room and took a final look at Reace before leaving. He watched the small figure of his son lying in his bed.
"You'll be a great knight one day Reace. I just hope I can prepare you properly for the trials ahead." Lord Malcom whispered to himself.
Lord Malcom knew that most of the children that started out as squires were not from the most wealthy families and that they would generally give nobleman's son's a difficult time. Most of the middle class people believed that the nobles of the city were snobs and looked down on them. There was a distinct dislike towards the children of nobles and Lord Malcom worried for his son. The road Reace had chosen would definitely not be an easy one.
"Sleep well Reace, I know you'll make me proud." Lord Malcom whispered and then left the room.
A/N I hope this chapter was not too boring a read. Opening chapters are not always the easiest for a story. I will endeavor to better the story and writing in future chapters.
