Because David Wright has had his share of troubles this year, there may be a tendency to point to his final two at-bats of Friday’s 2-1 loss to the Yankees as more examples of the same.
But is grounding out against Mariano Rivera really a crime?
Even if Rivera has been vulnerable lately, no closer in the game is better. Jason Bay and Ike Davis got to Rivera,

“I felt like I had good at-bats,
Cheap DC shoes hats,” Wright said. “Sometimes you have good at-bats and don’t have anything to show for it. That’s the case. But i like being up in those situations. It’s not about not wanting to be in that situation. You want to be in those situations and put together good at-bats. Sometimes it just doesn’t work out your way.”
Plenty of great hitters could say the same thing after facing Rivera.
Wright also struck out looking against Joba Chamberlain in the seventh inning with runners at first and second and the Mets trailing,

“He made a great pitch,” Wright said. “A pitch that you really can’t hit.”
The night before in Washington, Wright hit a bases-clearing double in the first inning,

As for Davis, who doubled off Rivera in his first at-bat against him, he said there was no real trick to it.
“Everyone kind of knows what he’s going to throw you,” Davis said,
