Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced Thursday he would not try to bring the massive budget to a vote in the face of Republican opposition to the inclusion of 7,000 specially funded projects costing billions of dollars.

Reid says he and McConnell will collaborate on a bill to fund the federal government through early next year,

Presidential spokesman Robert Gibbs says a year-long spending bill is preferred over a three-month temporary spending bill. Gibbs says President Barack Obama could sign something as late as Sunday to continue funding the operations of the government.
The projects,
