Carnage looks like a surprisingly lighthearted follow-up. The source material, God of Carnage – a play by French playwright Yasmina Reza – translated well to English and American theatre audiences, winning an Olivier here and attracting some big names (James Gandolfini, Jeff Daniels, Hope Davis, Marcia Gay Harden) to the principal roles.
