After reading Harvey Araton’s article today that the Yankees might be BETTER this year WITHOUT A-Rod, I certainly concur. All A-Rod all the time makes me want to yawn. I want to see what this kid Ransom has to offer. I remember when the Yankees were a team and the circus atmosphere was nowhere to be found. Go Yanks

The idea that the Yankees might be better without Rodriguez would be laughable — except that Iʻm too used to a parallel bad joke to laugh at it.
I remember the same ridiculous scenario of a Red Sox of the 40s and 50s that might be “better off” without Ted Williams. One Record-American* columnist, when asked why he blamed all the Soxʻ troubles on Williams replied “I donʻt. I blame some of it on the PLAYERS>” (Notice he didnʻt say the OTHER players.) And he called the Red Sox the Eight which in other cities is a Nine.
To call someone “over-rated” is one thing; but you have to be good for the question of over-rating even to come up. The stars didnʻt become even reputed stars through an optical illusion.
My most respected Yankee player: Derek Jeter

“Every spring you go into spring training and people say, ‘This team is the team to beat,’ or ‘That teams looks great on paper,’ but injuries are a part of the game,” Jeter said. “You have to work through those things because it happens to every team every year. Other guys are going to have to step up if he’s out for an extended period of time.”

Perhaps the best thing to happen from A Rod being out is it will finally shut up one contingent or the other about whether the team is better without him. We shall see whether his offense and his glove and arm can be so readily replaced over the long haul,
Cheap St Louis Cardinals Hats, and whether that makes a difference. And we will also now have to shine the spotlight on all those who consistently have failed to hit in the clutch the last few years. Yes,

Jeter was also asked about Alex Rodriguez, and he said they had spoken by phone in the last few days. Jeter said he couldn’t comment on whether Rodriguez will have hip surgery because no decision has been made.
