Default Home movies like a pro..

Everything is going digital these days,Star Wars The Prequel Trilogy! Voice is going to VOIP,. On speed, satellite is going to high definition, and digital and video cameras are recording straight onto their internal hard disk, sd cards or DVD to AVI in digital format. This is good news for us laymen videographers...
I remember going into a videographers editing studio, which looked very much like the control panel that one sees in a voice recording studios; knobs and buttons with sliders and panels all over the place. But now there is another way... We can simply plug our camcorders into our PC and viola there are the videos in mpeg or Mac DVD to mp4 format for us to view and edit on our computers... All we need is editing software.
There is no shortage of this software but since I am a fan of the open source community, I like to use KDENlive. This will only work on DVD to Mp3 or Linux operating system, but I have also heard great reviews about Windows Movie Maker..
With KDENlive you can do a couple of neat tricks that can make your home movies all the more pleasant and professional. Firsly, you can add some music over the actual sound and pictures. I find this extremely useful for home movies... It also lets you cut tracks and assemple them into different Blu-ary to AVI or segments. This is definately beneficial, speaking for myself, as I usually record way too much of one particular scene, which seems like a good idea at the time, but usually one can cut this down into a sucsinct sequence that will give the flavour of the memory and not bore the audience at nausium...
