Malibu is a very desirable area which is where many people both traditional and celebrities have a desire to live. The area is so incredibly wanted by so many people because 21 miles of it are along the beach and it is close enough to the major road of the Pacific Coast Highway, which provides access to many different cities and attractions anyone could want while living somewhere. The area is a great place to visit, live, and also a place where someone can run away to get some time away from reality if that is what they desire.
Malibu's history extends back to one family in particular. The location of Malibu was settled over 100 years ago in 1891 by the Rindge Family. The family had the primary goal of keeping Malibu for private purposes but plans did not go accordingly since the state needed it for other purposes and wanted a major highway to cut through it. This began the process of selling off sections of the land for people to begin living in by May Rindge, a member of the family. Some of the first celebrities settled in Malibu at the Malibu Colony where many of the residents settled at first. May's intent wasn't going to be to completely get rid of all the land but a need for funds caused her to sell the rest of it and development continued. This family's history can still be seen by looking at the Adamson House included at the Malibu Lagoon State Park. It was a successful business when the economy of the area was doing well. It took a hit when the rest of the area did.
Malibu is very well known for the large number of properties that lie along the 21 mile stretch of beach. A few of the specific beaches that are found in the city are Malibu State Beach, Zuma Beach, and the Surfrider Beach as well. A lot of different parks exist for recreational opportunities as well like the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreational Area, Leo Carillo State Beach and Park, and of course the Malibu Creek State Park.
Malibu isn't without its faults though. It is some place that is very common for multiple fires to happen each and every year that unfortunately can engulf and destroy entire homes in little to no time at all. As a result of the common occurrence of fires the laws regarding them are very strict but they can't be avoided completely. The other natural occurrence that happens is that heavy rainfall produces mud slides sometimes.
Don't let these two factors detract you from the great appeal that Malibu has to offer though. Many people who live in Malibu are part of the celebrity crew. It isn't entirely too uncommon to see them when shopping, dining, or just strolling along and enjoying the sights that the city has to offer people. Some common celebrities who have lived in Malibu at some point or currently do are Bob Dylan, Dick Clark, Danny DeVito, Sean Penne, Bruce Willis, Sting, Martin and Charlie Sheen, and Burt Reynolds to name just a select few. There are, of course, hundreds more which are not currently named and all celebrities cannot be included.
Due to the incredibly high celebrity presence, the costs of the homes in Malibu are incredibly high. The average price of a home is over a million dollars and actually averages out to be $1. 79 million. This would be a problem under traditional conditions but the fact that the real estate market has hit a down turn means that there are ample opportunities available to purchase housing and it has also cut the average price down to $600, 000, by more than half of the original.
