IF ever there was a clothe up day above the front rows of New York Fashion Week it was yesterday, as the thrones of tall upkeep gloss and luster -?Oscar de la Renta and?Michael Kors - showed their inimitable take ashore metropolis style for spring/summer 2009.
At Kors, a day on the lake proved the jumping off point for nautical-inspired show Triple A: Architectural, Athletic, American, which was bursting with cheery oversized red polka dots, surfboard-inspired stripes and "sails" of linen tracking from the behind of dresses. For those by and by moments, chic anoraks came darted over prom-style cocktail dresses.
In a somewhat extra subdued palette of oyster, redden, avocado and navy punctuated with Ikat prints and lavish ruffles, de la Renta gave his fans superfluity to lust behind with a collection exploding with classically tailored skirt suits and easy, breezy full-length skirts faultless for lunching. Of special note were the accessories, big waist-cinching straps and lunchbox-shaped?handbags that are sure to sellout before they even buffet the shelves.
Less demure - yet at no means less covetable - were Anna Sui's earth-toned embroidered shell tops and ethnic-printed strapless dresses; the embellished marine little skirt suit sported by Agyness was an of the best we've looked for the season at present.
The up-and-comers too held their own. New inspired mentor Alessandro Dell'Acqua brought gleam to knitwear tag Malo, meantime at Phillip Lim, a Spanish fiesta influenced a punchy offering a-swing with fringes, pleats and ruffle-peplum jackets. Doo.Ri once anew worked her signature magic with jersey, with complicated piping and tangles excellent details of memorandum, and?Marchesa surpassed itself with a red carpet-ready showing namely built wafers of tulle and lace into gowns of momentous proportion.
