I tagged along with Josh, in part to be a good wife but more importantly because I want to make my own connections with the community-minds-that-be within Microsoft, and this was an invitation delivered on a silver platter. That said, I didn’t openly announce who I was beyond saying I was “Josh’s wife.” A few people there (and I’m not naming names) automatically assumed I wasn’t a Microsoft employee, and I was quite shocked by the way I was treated. It’s like when Montel makes mean, skinny women wear fat suits so they can reflect on how they treat others. I can’t really put my finger on specifics, but it was just overly apparent that I wasn't “good enough” to be part of the clique. However,windows 7 professional activation, once I got a chance to throw in that I worked at Microsoft, attitudes changed. It was quite an odd showing for folks who are supposed to be about “community.” (Betsy was still great, by the way.) :) Anyway, there’s some food for thought. I attended my first Geek Dinner at Crossroads in Bellevue. Regrettably I was late (but not for a regrettable reason – Josh, JP, and I were having dinner with a fabulous MVP who was in town for a couple days.) I only got to join in on the tail end of some conversations before most of the group disbanded. It was 2 hours past Berner dinnertime so it was definitely time for Josh and me to be headed home. at the dinner, I chatted with Scoble for a couple minutes. He asked me about today’s Seattle Times article on Microsoft Recruiting. Earlier today, Zoë and I discussed whether or not we should blog about this topic. Zoë actually suggested we should; I opted to shy away from it since I didn’t see a need to spread the news. But after talking with some folks tonight, I realized that to ignore such a big occurrence in my own department (which has now been made public news) was a disservice to our readers. Sure – no one has pinned me for the fence and demanded a comment, but ignoring the obvious doesn’t sit well with me. said, I’m not going to blog about my feelings and fears regarding this decision. This isn’t the appropriate forum, and frankly, I don’t feel that secure in my job right now. :) I will confirm that Zoë and I going through this restructuring, and we are filling out the "position profile.” In fact, we both completed and submitted ours today. does this mean for JobsBlog? I was greatly bothered by reporter Kim Peterson’s summary of a Microsoft recruiter job description: “The recruiters visit college campuses and keep track of internal job openings at the company.” I can deal with press coverage of an upcoming restructuring. I can handle talks of how we are going about that restructuring. But when the job that causes other hardworking employees and me to work ourselves up into stress-induced balls of nothingness (just ask Josh) is belittled and reduced to such an unskilled function, it makes me sad. Zoë, Heather, and I work way too hard at changing the perception of our profession to only have it disparaged in another forum. Yeah, yeah, I’m too sensitive, but I take these things personally. would a good Microsoft employee be without proposing a better way of doing things? A more appropriate way to denote my job description (with fewer words! How’s that for increased efficiency?!) would be: “The recruiters identify top college and industry talent and fill the company’s job openings.” Sure,buy microsoft windows 7 serial key, my description isn’t comprehensive, but it’s more representative. … Maybe I should write for the Seattle Times.
