85% The Ides of March
One of the best acting ensemble of the year, undermined by a film that is decades behind in it's political intrigue and knee deep in B-grade melodrama seemingly pulled from burberry hats a lesser film. "The Ides of March" starts off strong, with exciting and award worthy turns by it's excellent cast (Giamatti, Hoffman, and Gosling in particular) and heavy though effectively memorable exchanges between them. But soon the film packs on unnecessary plot points, looses focus, and just becomes more and more fractured and forgettable. The Ryan Gosling/ Evan Rachel Wood story line especially just didn't work for me. It felt tacked on and unnecessary. burberry kid The film, well directed by Clooney, is unconventionally short for a film of this kind, but that contributed to the film's expeditious pace (one of it's best traits). Though Clooney's latest directorial effort has some big positives going for it (mainly it's cast), it never elevates itself beyond being a decidedly average burberry wristlets political thriller. It's not very memorable and is not the must-see I was expecting. Still, you can do a lot worse. August 17, 2011
