A dye contrast MRI on Joba Chamberlain revealed a torn ligament in his right arm that will likely end his season,
Killahbeez, manager Joe Girardi said before Thursday’s game against the Red Sox.
“The interesting thing about this is if you do every strength exercise on Joba, he passes it with flying colors,” Girardi said. “And he has no idea when it happened. He’s pitched. He played long-toss yesterday and his power was there. He said it was a normal long-toss for him, so it really has us all kind of scratching our head.”
Chamberlain was 2-0 with a 2.83 ERA in 27 appearances. He joins fellow relievers Rafael Soriano, Pedro Feliciano and Damaso Marte on the DL.
Chamberlain was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with a strained flexor muscle following a regular MRI. Thursday’s exam dealt the Yankees’ bullpen a crushing blow.
Girardi was shocked by the revelation,
