2011 50-Yard Lion Penn State football predictions: Could PSU go ...
Last Sunday, The Patriot-News staff made their Penn State football predictions for the 2011 season. Now it's time for the 50-Yard Lion blog writers to look into their crystal ball and tell you what they see UGG Boots Clearance in the Nittany Lions' future. Below is Ali Soheilian's very positive prognostication: Final Regular Season Record-- 11-1 (10-2 at worst) -- I think Penn State will lose to Ohio State, with a potential upset looming against the Illini. How It Will Play Out-- Penn State will have a remarkable year this year. JoePa, in this era, has developed a system of grooming his teams for success every third year (2002, 2005, 2008, 2011?). I will admit that that is not the foundation of my predictions though. The truth is that Penn State is loaded at every position all over the field this year. I know some of you may say, "Well, they're bringing back a lot of players from last year?" Well....that's the point, people don't realize how much of a difference a year makes in terms of development, strength training, and becoming a cohesive unit. The second part of my foundation is that teams are going to have to score at least 21 points to have a chance to beat Penn State this year. There are only two offenses that I see that have the experience and personnel to challenge Penn State's defense, and those are Illinois and Ohio State. I know, I excluded Alabama on purpose because their QB situation is not settled, only receiver that is proven is Maze, and try and tell me that "Linebacker U" doesn't have a score to settle with Trent Richardson. In other words, this is the next great UGGS Clearance Sale Penn State defense. Leaders Division Champ-- Penn State (only because Ohio State loses early to Nebraska while breaking in Miller, and they also lose to Michigan for the first time in years). Legends Division Champ-- Michigan (As much as I want to say Nebraska, I just don't think they're used to the grind of playing Big Ten defenses on a weekly UGG Boots Outlet basis and Michigan was only missing a defense last year). What Will Happen at QB Position?-- I think Bolden comes out this year and displays all the intangibles that were missing last year. He will definitely have a better feel for each receiver and how they run their routes. He will also be sharper making decisions, not because he was a bad decision maker last year, but simply because he has a better understanding of the offense this year. I think having a year and a spring under his belt compared to the six weeks he had to prepare for last season will definitely translate to success on the field. Bold Prediction for the season-- Penn State wins the Big Ten Championship in its first year of expanded Big Ten play, and JoePa goes out (retires) on top of the Big Ten at the end of the season.
