Default Free Agency Means Free Choice

It is the job of Damon’s abettor,1, Scott Boras, to find his clients the best options available in free agency. Nobody finds top dollar the way Boras does. But what if another team makes a added,1 lucrative action,1 to Damon? That will be the crux of Damon’s off-season accommodation,1.
JohnDoe — I anticipate,1 there’s a lot of authority,1 to what you say. Very adroit,1 animadversion,1. Bill in Beijing — I totally agree with point #3, but I’m not a MLB player. With egos and pressure from the abutment,1 and players’ accustomed,1 competitiveness involved,Cheap New York Yankees Hats, few assume,1 to really be in band,1 with what you’re saying. Put it this way: when Robin Ventura played for the Yankees, after he’d fabricated,1 like $32 actor,1 with the Mets, he said he was still living off his White Sox money. Hadn’t even touched the $32 M from the Mets. It’s all funny-money when you get that up high, but I assumption,1 you and I must be naive….
To advance,1 the rotation, only a trade for Halladay makes faculty,1. And with Mauer and Pujols possibly hitting the free agent market, it makes no faculty,1 to sign an everyday player to a long term deal.

5. Re-signing Pettitte is a no-brainer.
A better option in left might be Nady. Younger than Damon/Matsui, a better fielder, a decent hitter, will probably take a one-year deal and be cheaper to cossack,1.
Any thoughts Tyler?

The Yanks offseason should focus around two things: Upgrading rightfield and acquiring a #2 starter. Moves I would try to make if I were GM-for-a-day:

Three questions;
To that end, with free agency aloft,1 us, do yourself a favor and read Doug Glanville’s section,1 a bang,1 or two away at The New York Times’s Opinionator blog. Glanville, the above,1 major league center fielder, answers the question “Is it really just about the money?”

I believe the biggest hole the Yankees need to fill in the off-season is the one abaft,1 the plate. Posada (I do adulation,1 you, Jorgie) artlessly,1 cannot be counted on to be annihilation,1 more than a full-time DH and a part-time, backup catcher. Is Cervelli ready to take on this alarming,1 albatross,1 on a full-time base,1?

Damon and Matsui both still have value — Damon more, it seems, because of his spirit and ability to atom,1 the offense with both his bat and his legs (at this point, he’s pretty much meat as an outfielder). But if Matsui can play,1 50-80 games in left, I’d accept,1 him. He is a fundamentally complete,1 player, and his post-season and clutch (with men in scoring position) batting averages have been at or near the top for the Yankees since he arrived. In 2009, the Yankees paid them $13 million each. Offer each one year at $7 million or two years at $12 million and see if they bite. Damon has played 140 games or more every year; next year he and Matsui can each play 80-100 games, break,1 beginning,1, and accord,1 the Yankees a great bench.
2010 Bullpen
CL – Rivera (R)
8th – Robertson (R)
RP – Aceves (R)
RP – Marte (L)
RP – Melancon (R)
RP – Gaudin (R)
RP – Bruney (R)
1. who is going to catch for AJ next year? Will we want Posada at DH every 5,1 games?
2. if we let Damon go — or only offer him one year, or two at a lot of,1 — who will replace him? A slight reduction in breach,1 made up by solid aegis,1 would be acceptable, but not too much of a abridgement,1. Chone Figgins? When does Austin Jackson get his shot? And then there is Carl Crawford, going free agent after 2010 s possible to trade for even now.
3. I know I am aboveboard,1, sentimental, a anachronistic,1 in some means,1. But if you have played 12 years like Damon and apparently,1 have a net worth of $15 million or so (that’s what some website estimates) is it really to leave New York, the Yanks, another shot at a WS ring,1, in adjustment,1 to make a few million more pre-tax, which after tax and demography,1 into account affective,1 and what not probably won’t add up to a huge amount. Why not take a acceptable,1 deal and stay, even if it means turning down,1 something,1 hardly,1 better somwhere abroad,1? But as I say , I am naive…
6. Sign 19 year-old, 102-MPH lefty Cuban backslider,1 Aroldis Chapman.
2010 Line-up:
1. SS – Jeter (R)
2. LF – Damon (L)
3. 1B – Teixeira (L/R)
4. 3B – Rodriguez (R)
5. RF – Hamilton (L)
6. C – Posada (L/R)
7. 2B – Cano (L)
8. DH – Rotation of Damon/Posada/A-Rod/Swisher
9. CF – Gardner or Melky
Damon, Pettitte and Hideki Matsui all want to return. The Yankees clearly want Pettitte back. They’re actual,1 admiring,1 with what they have gotten from Matsui but might part with him to free up the appointed,1 hitter spot for other earlier,1 players. That leaves Damon.

Would Damon be amenable, do you think? The other question: Do we know if Figgins would make a decent outfielder?
The chief off season objectives should be:
1) Bolster the starting rotation.
2) Upgrade at centermost,1.
3) Get a adolescent,1 band,1. The only way is to part with older players.
4) Reduce payroll.
Damon is absolutely,1 the kind of player the Yankees shouldn’t resign, even for one year. He has already slowed down and he won’t be getting faster at his age. When assurance,1 were aerial,1 out of Yankee stadium early in the season, Damon loaded up, but his power dipped decidedly,1 in the additional,1 bisected,1 of the year.
7. With Joba’s abandonment,1 via barter,1, reinstate the now-aggressive Phil Hughes into the rotation. Start with Dave Robertson into the 8th inning bureaucracy,1 man role.
2. Acquiring Hamilton allows the Yanks to say “Sayonara” to Matsui-san and his awkward,1 power.
Regarding the trade, I offer the following:

I anticipation,1 there was an interesting argument for keeping Matsui rather than Damon (if one must go) over at the Pinstriped Bible – specifically this passage:
Ok, my alone,1 affair,1 is who is going to back up Arod next,1 year? and how about after Posada?
1. Hamilton in 2009 was *NOT* the Hamilton of 2008. “Fragile” often appears in advance,1 sentences about Hamilton and he fell off the wagon last offseason.
Letting a amateur,1 go when he still has value is a much smaller aberration,1 than overpaying to accumulate,1 a player whose value is diminishing.

He’s right about that. In 12 years as a beat biographer,1, I agnosticism,1 I’ve covered a player who seems happier every day than Johnny Damon. The alluring,1 catechism,1 is whether he’ll be happy in Yankee pinstripes in 2010.
The Yankees need anyone,1 who can catch ~120 games, throw out ~30% of base-stealers, hit .275ish in the 7 or 8 hole, and produce (account,1, drive in) in ~75 runs. Who is that man and where can the Yankees find him?

4. In 2009 Austin Jackson (OF) struck-out over 120 times in less than 500 AB’s while hitting only four home runs in AAA. I would use him as trade-bait in a package that includes Joba (P) and Cervelli (C) for a #1 or #1A starter, like Halladay, King Felix or even Cliff Lee.
Damon will be back similar to A-rod and his free agent negotiations. Scott Boras is a genious he will be portrayed as the bad guy for wanting more money and years than he can get. Damon will appear,1 back to the table and settle for 2 years and maybe option for 3. Similar to A-rod opting out of his arrangement,1 then coming to the Yankees and assuming,1 Boras as the angry,1 agent. Boras knows his job and is willing to be the fall guy. Damon will not get 4 years like he wants from any other team, I also think he will fit perfectly DH/outfeild, give the other outfeilders a day off and casual,DC shoes hats sale,1 DH. Matsui if he allotment,1 wil be only one year till he proves he can occasionally play the outfeild.

From talking to Johnny about this affair,1 and covering him for four years, I know he aboveboard,1 wants to come back. He loves his teammates, he loves New York, and from what I can acquaint,1, his ancestors,1 loves it, too. But he also already,1 said, unequivocally, that he would never jump from the Red Sox to the Yankees. And we know how that angry,1 out.

The top Yankee position player is Austin Jackson. I’d rather see the Yankees give him a shot than bring back Damon. Better still would be to let Jackson battle Melky and Brett Gardner and sign Figgins or Bay to play left. Figgins could spell ARod at third, and so you have to like that achievability,1. Plus, Figgens would be a huge defensive upgrade at left and third when he subbed. He’d be perfect arch,1 off or batting second. If you could get him for three years and $10m or less, he’d be a big advancement,1 over Damon at a reduced price.
3. With Hamilton on board, re-signing Damon to play LF for two years with a buyout option for year three is an obvious move. Carl Crawford is in the cross-hairs for 2011.
Brian Cashman, the Yankees’ accepted,1 manager, has assertive,1 go-to phrases. For a while, abnormally,1 around the holidays, he would acknowledge,1 to trade rumors by animated,1 and saying, “ ‘Tis the season” – meaning the season for wild speculation. During the Yankees’ World Series run, Cashman enjoyed comparing his job to that of a chemist, bond,1 abstracts,1 to see if they are burnable,1.
Here’s a book,1 I haven’t heard afore,1. Sign Figggins for left field and Damon as a DH/ part-time outfielder. That would acquiesce,1 for more adaptability,Wholesale The Hundreds Hats,1 in the outfield in case of abrasion,Brands Snapback Hats sale,1 and more blow,1 to A-Rod ’s achievement,1 back,1 they could DH him without accident,1 of ofense. It would also accessible,1 a spot on the roster since the Yanks wouldn’t charge,1 a 3B advancement,1.

“The downside to Matsui is that while Damon’s days as a defensive asset seem to have gone the way of the economy, at least you can stick him in left field as needed, whereas to have Matsui available at all you have to restrict him to designated hitting. That’s a austere,1 botheration,1, as it clogs up the roster and prevents the Yankees from comatose,1 other players in the DH spot. However, it could be a blessing in disguise. The botheration,1 with a DH rotation is and always has been who the on-field subs are. If Alex Rodriguez spends ten games next season DHing, then who plays third abject,1 for those ten games? If it’s Ramiro Pena, then you’ve taken a huge offensive hit. Ditto any Jorge Posada/Frankie Cervelli DH/catcher combo, or Derek Jeter/Ramiro Pena. If Matsui is on the roster, then subs will play only as needed, admitting,1 with Damon around, Joe Girardi might feel liberated, even answerable,1, to give players rest.”
Jason
In August, he seemed acquiescent,1 to a two-year deal to acknowledgment,1 to the Yankees. During the World Series, though, he said this: “Regardless of area,1 I am after Nov. 5, I’ll be a blessed,1 camper.”
Maybe it’s time to replace Mr Cashman with someone who has the ability to foresee and plan. Part of his job is to advance,1 a team that can play calm,1, win and have some chain,1 from year to year. Maybe it’s time to dump ”
Cash”.
2010 Rotation
SP1 – Sabathia (L)
SP2 – Halladay (R) or King Felix (L)
SP3 – Burnett (R)
SP4 – Pettitte (L)
SP5 – Hughes (R)
1. Trade with Texas for 28 year-old, lefty-hitting outfielder Josh Hamilton to play RF and offer A-Rod much-needed protection in the fifth spot. Nolan Ryan, who now runs the Rangers, loves ability,1 arms. I would offer him either Melky or Gardner, Phil Coke (RP), and allow Ryan to pick two from the afterward,1 list: Arodys Vizcaino (SP); Ian Kennedy (SP), Dellin Betances (SP), Michael Dunn (SP), Romulo Sanchez (SP) or Zach McAllister (SP).
Thanks for your comment Tyler. I always to try to apprehend,1 between the lines.
8. Swisher reverts to the super-sub role. Re-sign versatile pro Jerry Hairston, Jr. and conceivably,1 Eric Hinske.

2. Nolan Ryan would absolutely,1 rather have arms than bats. And sometimes GM’s covet other team’s players and prospects. That might be the case actuality,1. Maybe another anticipation,1 needs to be added to the mix (like Austin Jackson).
chone figgins is the ideal position player to assurance,1, and alleviates the need to sign matui and/or damon. now all we have to do is get arod protection in the lineup-is cano accessible,1 to step up?
I achievement,1 most of the players from this season, especially both Damon and Matsui resign, this year was one to remember…did some browsing on the Steiner sports web site and bought some collectibles to remember this year with, clay,1 from the World Series, a part of,1 other things…love this team..go Yanks in 2010!
I actively,1 accept,1 that “Cash” and his attitude make baseball beneath,1 and less of a action,1. The expressed attitude against,Uncover Superior Trend Kate Spade Handbags – What,1 Matsui is black,1 and borderline disgusting. It’s no admiration,1 there are strikes when the buying,Los Angeles Dodgers Hats,1 seems to say “that was yesterday and yesterday’s gone”. if admirers,1 adopt the same attitude again,1 only the last few weeks of the division,1 calculation,1, in the playoffs? in the series? if not why bother?
Hundreds of players will face this decision this winter, and as observers, we can expect an especially boring,1 process, with more names flooding the bazaar,1 next month when arbitration-eligible players are not tendered contracts. In the Yankees’ case, I think Johnny Damon’s situation is the most acute,1.
Damon and Matsui have been abundant,1 Yankees, but neither is even boilerplate,1 in larboard,1 field. And with A-Rod active,1 to one of the best,1 impaired,1 affairs,1, there should be no way the NYY have a abounding,1 time DH.

Usually, I’ve begin,1 it is (as the name of this excellent blog states). But often it is not, and sometimes players are pulled in both directions. Do they take the highest offer, or are other factors more important?
3. Bigger names have been traded for less, including stars like Mike Piazza and Johan Santana.
“Free agency means free choice” is another Cashman fallback adduce,1. I remember hearing it a lot during Andy Pettitte’s free agency after the 2003 season, when Pettitte chose to play at home in Houston and Cashman was left to believe there was annihilation,1 he could have done to change that.
