In my travels and experiences around the world, I keep a travel blog, of cultural nuances that I notice, interesting sights and stories within the various locales that I visit, and unmissable attractions that I think others should see and visit. So, when EmilyKate asked me to write a guest blog for her site, about fashion, style or art that I noticed while down in South Africa, I was stumped! Luckily, South Africa and its people very swiftly showed me one of their loudest, and proudest fashion items- the sports team jersey. Â*In the USA, when women start dating a guy, we notice what he wears. Normally, more than one athletic jersey in the date outfit rotation will set off a little alarm bell. And, if he still makes it to the stage where you're in his room and opening his closet, God forbid there be a closet of multiple jerseys. The guy is toast. His fashion sense has been questioned, and deemed notably embarrassing- how could you even imagine going out in public with someone that might be wearing Caps jerseys when it's not even hockey season? Â*Well, in South Africa, jerseys are fair game for both ######es. In fact, they are definitive, staple items in the closet. Men and women will wear rugby polos as regular day wear, and even casually to bars, sports team jerseys can be donned year-round to show never-ending allegiances, and it event stretches as far as favorite colors being defined by the colors in <a href="www.nfljerseyseshop.com"><strong>Cheap nfl jersey store </strong></a> the team jerseys. I am not kidding. We were doing introductions at a workshop on Monday, and one of the things we asked participants to talk about was their favorite color.Â* "Well, it used to be blue, but now my favorite team has just lost in the big gameÂ*Â*Â* this weekend, so now I don't know what I will wear." "Green. Like the national [rugby] team- the Springboks. I have to show myÂ*support." Â*Â*Â*Â* Â*Â*Â*Â* It is considered normal, like blue jeans in the USA, to see men and women in a rugby polo or soccer jersey at any time of year. If it's cold, they may put a long-sleeved shirt on underneath, or a matching scarf or hat, but the jersey will be seen. Allegiances will not necessarily be made or broken depending on the jersey that you don, but it will spark up a conversation, because undoubtedly there is a sports match of some sort coming up, just passed, or a controversial historical match that can always be discussed. A woman becomes noticed for wearing her jersey out to a bar, becomes approached if it's a good team, and becomes prime-dating material if she can even hold a discussion about the team belonging with that jersey. In South Africa, sports jerseys are attractive. Â*It took a little bit of a change of opinion, a little bit of judgement pushed aside, but the jersey culture has grown on me. As I walk by the market stalls in the streets, where no matter what they are selling inside (toiletries, purses, food items, etc), there is generally at least one or two sports jerseys hanging on the outside wall, for sale, and I consider which one I will purchase, and wear, before I leave.
