Whitney Port of The City — so sad it was canceled! — was also out in NYC this week wearing a muted cheetah-print skirt, a beige sweater with strong shoulders, black tights, and Dr. Marten-esque boots, along with a slouchy black handbag with an emphasized zipper closure and square brown tortoise shades.

Alexa Chung attended the 7th Annual CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards this week, also in New York, and made a statement in high-waisted black shorts showing off her legs,NBA Hats, along with a classic white button-down shirt with a prominent necklace and sky-high peep-toe platforms with an ankle strap. Overall, the black shorts and white shirt combo is simple, but her styling and accessories make the outfit special.

Look 2: Whitney’s Muted Animal Prints
As Rihanna shows us,Wholesale Tampa Bay Rays Hats, a knit beret adds a cool touch to an outfit with fancy elements – in this case – an insane blue sequin skirt! This Coast Lana skirt (on the left) is a bit of a splurge, but it is an extremely intricate piece and has incredible movement, which is rare in sequined pieces. If you’re looking for something less pricey, I’ve also included a Forever 21 sequined mini on the right side, which is an awesome and more affordable alternative,Giuseppe Zanotti, and even directly incorporates black into the look.
Look 3: Alexa’s Nighttime Approach to Shorts

Black tights, paired with these raised combat booties, will make your legs appear long. While Dr. Martens like Whitney’s would complement the look, I chose heeled lace-up workman boots to add a bit more femininity and structure. Finally,Mulberry Alexa Sale, this Forever 21 is slouchy like Whitney’s, and has a similar long horizontal zipper closure. Finally, these square brown tortoise sunglasses are a modern take on a classic.
Animal prints are not typically a daytime print,San Francisco Giants Hats, but the shade of Whitney’s skirt is muted, so it looks totally appropriate and trendy for the day.  Overall, the look is a cross between soft (the sweater), grunge (the boots), and wild (the skirt!),Cheap Kansas City Royals Hats, yet it all comes together into this fabulous ensemble that’s ideal for walking around the city for some shopping or lunching. It’s also the perfect look for this fall weather. Love!

Whitney’s look can be attained by starting with an animal print skirt in a muted shade or pattern. This zebra one combines black, off-whites,Wholesale Philadelphia Phillies Hats, and grays, making it versatile and wearable for any season. On top, wear a beige or similarly neutral sweater — ideally,Christian Louboutin Boots, the sweater should be a bit baggy and long enough to cover the top of the skirt, like this Topshop one.

Rihanna,Arizona Diamondbacks Hats, wearing her newly red locks tucked under a black knit beanie, dared to wear the often-discouraged combination of black and blue. Looking at these photos, though, might make those naysayers change their minds!

Ms. R combined a sequined Opening Ceremony skirt (note the see-thru silk!) with a slouchy black sweater, blue ankle boots,cheap Cleveland Indians Hats, and a brown clutch. The top half of her look is very Bonnie, as in Bonnie and Clyde, and the bottom half is very festive — in a way,yves saint laurent boots, reminiscent of a holiday party. (Surely I can’t be the only one counting down the days until winter break!)

Look 1: Rihanna Shimmers in Black & Blue
High-waisted trouser shorts, like these from Urban Outfitters, are a great piece to add to your wardrobe because of their versatility: Being shorts,Players Authentic Hats, they are by nature casual, but can also be dressed up. Tuck into them a white button-down shirt, keeping it buttoned close to the top, so that you can wear a statement necklace over it, underneath the lapel, like Alexa did. A thin belt is another accessory that adds glamour to the look, just as this pearl-beaded clutch does.
Finally, pumps or platforms, preferably with an ankle strap,Wholesale Texas Rangers Hats, lift the look to new heights.
Rihanna also was wearing a thin word necklace with a not-so-polite message – while maybe you shouldn’t rock the same word necklace at your family’s Thanksgiving dinner,http://www.shalomprayerministry.com/members/home, a simple silver necklace can nonetheless be a cute addition to any outfit.
On top, wear a slouchy black sweater, and rather than Rihanna’s less-than-nice message, spread some positivity with a “Love” word necklace! Blue ankle booties are not the easiest shoe to find,immy choo, but these lace-up fold-over booties add a bit of a trendy edge to the look, and look much more expensive than they really are! A brown clutch finishes off the ensemble.
