Baseball rules date back to 1857 and have gradually been built on since that time. Since 1975 there have been few changes to baseball rules. Here are the baseball rules in chronological order 1857Prior to 1857 you could win the game if your side reached 21 aces. 1903The four strike rule is adopted by the American League.
1904The height of the pitcher mount is limited to a maximum height of 15 inches.
1908The pitcher cannot soil the new baseball in any way. Shinguards are reintroduced for the catcher. The sacrifice fly rule is adopted.
1910 The official baseball has a cork center.
1917The earned run stats and the definitions are added to the rules.
1920The spitball was out lawed. If a runner misses a base his failure to touch the base does not affect the preceding runner. The batter is credited for a home run in the ninth inning if the winning run is on base at the time of his home run. The number of runs batted are now included in the batters stats. Ninth inning uncontested steals in a one sided game are discarded.
1925The pitcher is allowed to use a resin bag. The home run distance is set at 250 feet.
1931The sacrifice rule is brought. No player can block the in line of sight of the batter or deliberate distract the batter in any way. A clarified regulation about a player who threw his glove or bat or thrown ball in case of a spectator.
1953Players cannot leave their gloves on the field when at bat and no equipment is to show on the field at any time.
1959All new parks must meet the new standard of 325 to 400 ft in size.

1975The baseball is permitted to be covered in cowhide due to the shortage of horse hide. If the batter is found using an altered bat he gets a three day suspension. The save rule is changed again.
