Default pandora bracelets,Pro-Anorexia and hypocrisy acros

Like an advertisement for a B-eat campaign on the page next to a ‘lose a stone in 2 weeks’ article in a magazine – my interview was by far overshadowed by the very kind of information I had been preaching against.
I, like other ambassadors and staff at B-eat want things to change. I want the government to realise how potentially damaging these websites are and have stronger regulations against them. If child-######## websites can be closed down, pandora letter charms, so can these. I know that they will always be there somewhere – when one closes another one opens – but at present there appears to be no policing whatsoever over the content of these websites, and that is irresponsible and a real worry. The interview I gave came after SKY News reported that numbers of women looking at ‘pro-ana’ websites is on the rise in the run up to Christmas; a notoriously difficult time for those who do or have lived with Eating Disorders. The websites alone are not to blame – that’s a whole other blog post.

I awoke on the wrong side of the bed this morning, so when I got a call asking me to give a radio interview I wasn’t ecstatic to say the least.
After a brief stumbling of words and muttering curses at the kitchen staff staring at me as though they had never seen a microphone before, pandora charms sale, the interview began. I spoke a little about my own illness, pandora bracelets, how it takes freedom and ruins relationships, work, all brain function and pretty much everything else a person should have. I talked about how stupid and dangerous ‘pro-ana’ websites and all the tips and tricks and ‘thinspiration’ that comes with them are. I was asked to explain and give examples of such tips and tricks,http://www.ykquan.cn/space.php?uid=2...blog&id=325056, but I refused, explaining instead that giving away such details would go against my message that such ‘advice’ should be avoided at all costs. Move on…
All wrapped up. Shook hands, said goodbyes and later sighed as my in depth interview was cut down to a short and pretty meaningless quote in the news report. You get used to that.
The station were doing a news item on pro-anorexia and they were trying to get a B-eat young ambassador to talk about the dangers of such websites. However bad my mood, I take my role as an ambassador very seriously and anything I can do to spread awareness and educate about Eating Disorders, I’m your girl.
Within half an hour I met up with Matt and we chatted in a drab Sainsbury’s cafe on a retail estate in Salford – looovely. He was very friendly, asked about my Glastonbury wristband and kindly offered his editors email address when he found out that I was studying Journalism post-grad. He admitted that he didn’t know of anyone who had been or is anorexic or bulimic – that he knew of – and was open with me in saying that he didn’t know much about the illness. I’m fine with that – journalists are not experts,http://www.motorcyclemonsterspace.co...djafhdfh/blogs, they are there to learn, to tell a story – I was glad he was open with me.
But then came the shock. Maybe not shock, more despair. I browsed the website of the Radio Station who wanted to highlight and warn listeners about the dangers of the tips and tricks spread through ‘pro-ana’ websites. I clicked on the ‘lifestyle’ tab, wondering if they had taken up my request to link to this very blog – hoping that anybody who heard the news item and wanted more information would be able to come, read, learn and maybe contact me. What I found made me wonder why I bothered at all. An entire page on faddy diets, suggestions of ways to cut out calories, pandora sets sale, pictures of scales, “healthy” (i.e. stupidly low calorie) recipes and our very own Kelly Osbourne’s diet “secrets”.
Back to the interview. I was as honest and open as I could be whilst remaining aware and responsible throughout – that nothing I said could provoke listeners to believe myths that are commonly spread via the media. When asked about the costs of looking at these ‘pro-ana’ websites, following such tips and ultimately living with Anorexia or Bulimia, I thought of a friend. This friend was 28 when she lost her life AFTER being in recovery. Another was 17 and died in hospital after being transferred from an Eating Disorder Unit to a Psychiatry ward – her BMI was in the healthy range. Many others have gone the same way. I know of too many. I have been told myself: “Carry on and you will die.” Death is not something that only happens to women or men when they weigh 4 stone and resemble a skeleton. Death is not something that only happens to people who have lived with an Eating Disorder all their lives. Death is not something that comes with a warning. It comes out of the blue and it can happen at any time, at any stage, at any age… it is a real consequence and should never be skimmed over or pushed aside.
And so, the hypocrisy continues. On, and on, and on…
I had already put forward the fact that I would not talk about weight in numbers or give details of what I lived on – it feeds into the competetive nature of vulnerable people wanting to lose weight, wanting to know how to, or Anorexics automatically seeing a number and wanting theirs to be lower. I spoke of how I hate that magazines or even newspapers, when covering stories on Anorexia or Bulimia ALWAYS try to highlight the numbers – the weight,http://www.the-reincarnation.com/art...ge.php?pos=-14, the calories. As a recovering Anorexic, I know that eyes are drawn to these numbers – whether the feature is positive or not, the very fact that shocking pictures are printed and shocking facts stand out from the rest of the article can only be negative. It could be argued that such images and numbers are there to alarm the reader – but it only purports the myth that all Eating Disordered people have to be a scarily low weight, look emaciated and eat next to nothing. None of which are true.
