(NewsCore) - HOUSTON -- Houston Astros manager Brad Mills and right-handed pitcher Aneury Rodriguez have both been suspended by Major League Baseball following their ejections in Sunday’s game against the Marlins, Mlb Jerseys .com reported Tuesday.
Mills will be forced to sit out Wednesday’s game against the Cubs, while Rodriguez, who is facing a three-game ban, will remain with the team pending his appeal of the league’s decision. The suspensions are the result of multiple incidents between the two clubs during their weekend series that culminated in Mills and Rodriguez getting the boot from MLB umpire Jim Joyce on Sunday. Marlins reliever Edward Mujica jump started the hostilities Sunday when he was ejected in the seventh inning for hitting Astros’ second baseman Bill Hall for what was deemed to be retaliation for Hall’s hard slide into shortstop Milwaukee Brewers on Friday, according to MLB.com.
Rodriguez was tossed in the ninth inning when he plunked Florida first baseman Gaby Sanchez. Joyce then sent Mills to the showers after the Astros’ skipper came out of the dugout to argue Rodriguez’s ejection. Rodriguez maintains he did not intentionally hit Sanchez.(wealthmass) "I was trying to throw my pitches in and I had him two strikes and make a pitch inside and I hit him," he said. "I never thought about hitting him."
