The rumors circulating earlier this week were true: Microsoft has made the decision to pull the plug on its MSN/Windows Live Butterfly plan.More than the previous couple of many years, the Butterfly testers received pre-beta Windows Reside goods and providers before the public had a chance to check them. They provided Microsoft with standard feedback and did some neighborhood outreach.I asked Microsoft about its decision to shut the program. A spokesperson sent the subsequent response:“The Butterfly group has been involved in beta testing MSN and Windows Reside items for a number of many years. Rather than continue the program as something only focused on beta testing, we’re offering the group a variety of options to engage in the broader Windows Reside neighborhood,
Office 2007 Key, including the possibility to join the MVP (Most Valuable Professional) system and continued and future access to beta testing opportunities.”Wikipedia;s already been updated to reflect the demise of the Butterfly plan, noting it was closed in June 2009.Update: I see a number of folks noting on Facebook and Twitter that they obtained their MVP renewal notices from Microsoft today, the first day of Microsoft;s fiscal 2010. I wonder if any former Butterflies will be among the 2010 MVP crew.
