Laptop Screen is Fuzzy Pink and White?

I have an HP laptop. I have only had it for about 1 1/2 years. Since I bought it the screen goes pink and white and flashes pink on and off. Before that the computer has a hard time holding a charge. Have replaced the cord once. Now the cord isnt working again. And NOW its saying that the battery needs to be replaced. So Im not sure if I should replace the battery, the cord, (maybe something wrong with screen also) or just buy a new one? At one time the computer sounded like the fan was scraping again somethign every once in a while or like a disk was in there scratching and it wasnt? Any suggestions? I just dont want to spend what it costs for a new one to fix it.
