All practice is in the end, geared towards lowering your scores. In my opinion as a mental game coach, some practice time needs to be focused solely on becoming a better scorer. For example, making a long term swing change will eventually result in you shooting lower scores, and becoming a better player. Even with the improved swing changes though, you will still need to covert an improved golf swing into lower golf scores,

This practice game is an excellent one to improve your ability to score well. The game places an extra focus specifically on those parts of the game that will help you to score better: Areas such as the short game; being able to get up and down to keep the round going; and making birdie putts to build momentum in the round.
This game was introduced to me by a college team mate,
Oakley Sunglasses, who heard about a great game being used to improve scoring. The game is simple,
versace sunglasses, instead of counting the amount of strokes a player takes on a hole, the player is awarded points depending on the following:
If the player hits the green in regulation, and two putts for par, he /she is awarded 1 point.
If the player misses the green, and gets up and down for one point, he/she is given 2 points.
If the player hits the green and makes the birdie putt,
wholesale dc shoes hats, or chips in for birdie, he/she is awarded 3 points.
For par 5's, the scoring is slightly modified:
If the player hits the par green in two shots, and two putts for birdie, he/she is given 3 points.
If the player gets up and down for birdie ( from anywhere inside 100 metres) he/she is awarded 4 points.
And if the player makes an eagle, by either chipping in or holing an eagle putt, the player is awarded 5 points.
You may like to try out this game for yourself, or suggest it for a team practice round. The game is a lot of fun to play, it's a way of playing a practice round, whilst teaching the importance of scoring low.
In addition to this game, for elite players, playing 2 ball worse ball is an excellent game to improve your ability to score low, and to be able to execute shots consistently under pressure. In this game the player hits two balls off every tee, then plays the two balls from the position of his worst shot (the ball furthest from the green or in the rough etc). As this game takes a little longer to play, and is quite challenging, it is only recommended for use when you have the golf course to yourself (or your group). As mentioned, this game is most suitable for elite players.
For both of these games, they are most effective when you are comfortable with your technique, and can devote some time to focusing solely on scoring better. It's NOT appropriate to be overly concerned with correcting your technique during these games, that is for the practice fairway! The emphasis is on getting the ball in the hole.
