What We Do
Accounting Services is responsible for managing the University’s general ledger accounting system and the feeder system interfaces that post transactions to the general ledger. Staff provides guidance, education and training to the owners of each feeder system and to departmental personnel regarding the form and content of every accounting transaction posting to the general ledger accounting system. This requires regular interaction with key financial staff in central administrative units (e.g., payroll, purchasing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, property management, etc.), University of Iowa Health Care, collegiate and auxiliary unit budget officers, and departmental administrators and staff. The general ledger maintains the primary business process controls that affect all financial transactions on campus. Accounting Services must have intricate knowledge of the general ledger system controls in order to promote a financial system that meets the business needs of a diverse University community while maintaining a strong and robust set of internal controls.
