Better Know a Prospect: Nationals
,
kelly handbagWondering which young players could have an impact in the majors this year? Let MLB FanHouse guide the way in Better Know a Prospect. In this edition we look at three players from a Washington system that can't develop pitchers quickly enough.
Garrett Mock, RP: Mock had an impressive 41 innings with the Nationals last summer and enters camp with a strong chance of earning a spot on the Opening Day roster. A starter in the minors,
nike basketball shoes sale, he shifted to the bullpen upon arrival in the majors and posted a 2.42 ERA in that role. He also had 46 strikeouts and gave up just 17 hits in 26 innings. He walked too many batters, but his other qualities should be enough to ensure he gets regular work on a Nationals staff that remains one of the worst in the major leagues.
Jordan Zimmermann, SP: The top pitching prospect in the system,
onitsuka tiger mini, Zimmermann has a much higher upside than Mock. He's never pitched in Triple-A, though, so he'll probably be a mid-season call-up unless his Spring Training performance is too overwhelming to resist. He certainly overwhelmed in 2008, moving through High-A in just four starts and then posting a 3.21 ERA at Double-A Harrisburg. He may not have the stuff to be an ace, but he's probably closer than anyone currently slated for the Nationals rotation.
Terrell Young,
timberland uk website, RP: Young was the first pick in the Rule 5 Draft,
cheap nike dunks, which means the Nats must keep him on their roster all season or offer him back to Cincinnati. He can dial 98 mph on the radar gun, which means he has a place in anybody's bullpen, but he's never pitched above Single-A in his five years as a professional and has struggled with his control.

Today I am leaving for a two week vacation to Europe. My long lost college roommate and I are going to be hitting up Spain and Italy and in Italy Vlad will be meeting up with us for a Gondola ride or two! I am super excited for this vacation and this time will actually be vacationing. We are lucky enough to have someone who will write posts for me while I am gone, Nerdphanie! You all remember her as a guest blogger! Now she is signed on as a two week blogger to fill my spot. She will bring you lots of new bags and goodies to look at. I will be posting sporadically, but not my usual four or five posts a day
