Greeted by blurry faces he tried to sit up but was hit with a sudden headache. Grimacing in pain he felt himself being pushed back down on the cold hard ground. Ignoring the pain he again sat back up, pushing away the hands of those trying to prevent him from moving. He blinked rapidly to moisten his dry eyes, attempting to regain his vision. He looked around at the faces in the crowd and began standing up. Who the hell are all these people? Standing for only a moment he fell forward on his hands and knees and began to throw up. Blood, that can't be good. Again fighting the excruciating pain that seemed to cover his whole body he managed to stand up. Staggering, he planted his feet to gain his balance. What the hell is going on? Wiping the sweat from his forehead and face he looked around again, this time able to see more clearly. Not recognizing anyone around him he began to walk through the crowd. People were shouting at him from all directions, asking him questions, telling him to hold still and stay where he was. He could hear the sirens getting closer now.
I need to get out of here! Wiping his nose on his sleeve (great more blood.) he glanced around one final time to see if he could recognize anyone or anything that could tell him where he was or what was going on. Nothing. No one. Stretching out his left arm bending it at the elbow to make a wedge he began forcing himself through the crowd. With his other arm covering his abdomen he began stumbling through the sea of people that had arrived to see what had happened. Finally breaking through the massive crowd into the open he stopped again to look around but only for a moment. Spotting a narrow alley about a half a block up he started running best he could through all the pain.
Turning down the alley he could hear footsteps chasing after him. Looking back as he ran he could see people from the crowd racing after him down the alley but only for a few feet before giving up. Despite his cramping muscles and sore joints he kept running. Running as fast as his battered body would carry him. Why? He didn't know. Where to? He didn't care.
