Really. Ann Taylor, White House Black Market and Urban Outfitters have recently joined J.Crew to offer their own bridal collections. Largely lower on cost ― some retail for $300 ― and high on style
prom dresses 2011, these retailers very well might be giving bridal salons a run for their money.
Urban Outfitters launched its BHLDN (pronounced beholden) brand on Valentine’s Day through its Anthropologie line. The vintage-inspired spring 2011 collection features classic styles like the A-line, ball gown, trumpet and tea length, further punctuated by "feminine details with a whimsical sophisticated touch," Kristin Norris, managing director of BHLDN
A-Line prom dresses, wrote in an e-mail. Think: Flowers, bows, eyelet and embroidery in shades of off-white.
"We love to inspire a feeling of nostalgia through our designs and styles and try our hardest to offer an assortment that works for every body type and personality," she said.
Bridal dresses ― from their own brand designers

Ann Taylor joined the wedding party in 2006 with a small collection of gowns and bridesmaids dresses online as well as in its salon in New York City.
Even warehouse giant Costco is offering wedding dresses ― by designer Kirstie Kelly ― in limited locations including California, New Mexico and Arizona. Available in six styles

Trendsetters
The first retailer to saunter down the online aisle, J.Crew, launched a small line of dresses in 2004 and has since expanded its assortment to about 55 wedding gowns, as well as tuxedo coordinates for groomsmen

Should the dress miss the mark, it can be returned using the prepaid label provided by the retailer. In some instances, the retail store will accept the return.

Rose DelRosso, 49, of Park Ridge, wasn’t so sure. DelRosso, married for 25 years, was shopping recently at Garden State Plaza in Paramus.
"Looking online is an incredible idea," said DelRosso. "But me? I’m skeptical about buying clothes. I mean it could look gorgeous in the picture and then you could put it on and say, ‘What was I thinking?’ "
This is precisely why the bride-to-be should understand the return policies, said Daniel Butler, vice president of retail operations of the National Retail Federation in Washington.
He explains the trend as a way for companies to expand their product offerings and test new categories.
