The body of a woman was found in a northeast Calgary home Friday night. An autopsy will be done Monday. Meghan Grant/CBC Calgary police arrested a man Saturday in connection with the suspicious death of his common-law wife, whose body was found Friday in a northeast home. "We do believe this is a domestic-related homicide," Staff Sgt. Doug Andrus said. "It was not random." The identity of the man in custody will not be released until he is formally charged.
aion kinah An autopsy for the victim is scheduled for Monday. No charges have been laid and police said they are not looking for anyone else. The Whitehorn address, which was known to police, is home to the couple, in their 40s, and a sibling of the victim and that sibling's partner. The victim's sibling and her partner arrived at the address, 3600 block of 39th Street N.E., Friday evening and found the middle-aged woman dead and her partner of 10 years gone. At that point the pair called 911. Calgary police are investigating after a suspicious death in Whitehorn. An arrest has been made in connection with the case. Meghan Grant/CBC "We interviewed a number of witnesses; we received information that he frequented a location in the downtown area and, as a result, he was arrested at 3 a.m. MT without incident," Andrus said.Neighbours worry about areaEsther Lac, a next door neighbour, told CBC News on Saturday that the couple who lived in the home seemed odd to her. Aion Accounts Curtis, told CBC News he has also seen police at the home, but expressed surprise when he learned a woman was dead. "I didn't think it would come to something like that," he said. Curtis added he is starting to feel like the neighbourhood isn't safe, noting his roommate was mugged on their front lawn just four months ago. "It's really becoming quite weird and, us with three kids, it's time to think about moving." Police are encouraging anyone with information to get in touch with them. If the woman's death is declared a homicide, it will be Calgary's eighth this year.
