Racing Information and Tips for Geelong Race Track. Geelong Race Track is the primary regional horse racing spot in Geelong, Victoria, Australia. It is widely known to many for holding the famous annual Geelong Cup every October as well as many other races all throughout the year. However, horseracing here did not start until the 1st of May 1841 when a three-race event was held at Corio. The first race in this three-race event was a two-horse race where Juliet and its owner T. The following year, the very first official yearly Geelong horserace meeting was held. Other locations used for the meets were Belmont, Lara, Birregurra, Inverleigh, Leigh Road, North Shore, Winchelsea, Moriac, Meredith, Queenscliff, Portarlington, Drysdale and Torquay. The Geelong Race Track has a total circumference of 2,043 meters with a straight measurement of 400 meters and sweeping turns. Races held in this track are done in a counter clockwise fashion, just like most of the racecourses. The Geelong Thorough Trach on the other hand is 1,850 meters in circumference and a straight measurement of 380 meters. Start distances include 1000 meters, 1100 meters, 1200 meters, 1250 meters, 1300 meters, 1500 meters, 1900 meters, 2000 meters, 2100 meters and 2200 meters. The Geelong Cup was first held in 1872 at the Geelong Race Track. Since then, the Geelong Cup is traditionally being held at the same racecourse on the every fourth Wednesday of October of the year. After the first race event, the next meeting was conducted on the banks of the Moorabool River, at Airey?s Flat in particular. In 1907, the Geelong Racecourse as well as the Geelong Showgrounds were relocated to Breakwater Road, East Geelong, which is its current site to date. The first race meet held since the relocation was on March 1908. Following this was Geelong Racing Club?s first ever meeting pink nike dunk heels , which happened on December 12th of the same year. The Geelong Racing Club was formed in 1866, holding their first meet on January 18 and 19 1866. February 23 1872 saw the first Geelong Cup held at the Marshalltown course, where a new grandstand was opened. A railway branch line was provided to the course in 1878. The Geelong Racing Club will receive $31,000 from the Victorian Coalition Government to develop a masterplan and create a vision for the future of the Geelong racecourse. Minister for Racing Denis Napthine announced the Coalition Government's support. ?With this funding, Racing Victoria and the Geelong Racing Club will be able to develop a plan to meet the requirements of the Geelong racing community now and well into the future,? Dr Napthine said. ?The Geelong Racecourse Masterplan will ultimately lead to better facilities and infrastructure for the racecourse precinct. This is a step forward in the Coalition Government?s efforts to improve conditions of racing clubs across the state and revitalise thoroughbred racing in country Victoria.
